"Proper Use" or not in regards to pepper spraying the students, the damage to UCDs image cannot be understated. Davis had been building its reputation steadily - in fact to the point of reaching the status of a truly prestigious place of higher learning. Now it looks like SF State or Cal State Hayward. The chancellor has lost the respect of her own students and faculty, and has shown that the university will all to easily crush a persons right to free speech. For those who have not seen the quad area where this occurred, it can easily hold 8000 students. So a handful of 30 or so protestors gathered in the middle and would not move?, So What? Using pepper spray demonstrates - at the very least - that the campus police are narrow in their training. Hog-tying them like Taliban insurgents? Really? Likely the campus police would not have had the intelligence to gain acceptance to the university as students either. As for the chancellor, she needs to find a job she can handle, a job that does not require critical thinking or dynamic problem solving. It is embarrassing to anyone who has earned a doctorate that she holds a Phd.Alumni: do not donate to UCD next year. Money talks, BS walks. They will not change if they do not feel it in the pocket book.
