Planter Umbrella Stand
Community Content
Saw this on a DIY show a few years back and loved the idea. 1) Find a large pot and add about 8 inches of lava rock. 2) Add 4 one-inch dowels (these will be your drainage holes) and add a PVC pipe in the center. The pipe should be wide enough for the umbrella pole. You can keep the PVC pipe at the level of the pot (I went a little higher). 3) Mix quick setting cement (follow instructions on bag). Now this is the tricky part. While someone is holding the 4 dowels and the PVC pipe pour cemet in, leaving about 8 inches from top of pot (for dirt and plants). 4) Let set for about 10 mins. Leave the PVC pipe in but be sure to remove the dowels. These will be your drainage holes for your plants. 5) Let cemet cure overnight and plant some sun loving plants. Put the the pot on a stand with wheels and you can move the umbrella around to block the sun.
