Nice first time go at a solo horseback ride, Joe.Instead of yelling "whoa", try gently pulling straight back on the reins.Most all good saddle horses are trained to stop by this silent command. A calm "whoa" could go along with that, if you like.(From a horse owner and former trainer.)
